knoppix on vmware

Hi all,

I want to install knoppix on VMware.
So first I tried It myself. I partitioned the disk (virtual VMwaredisk):2GB for the main partition(set as boot), 260MB for the SWAP space. I set the first partition to ext3 and the second to linux swap. Then I typed knoppix-installer.
But it everytimes say that I dont have the minimum requirements :s but I think I have.
So I searched on our dear friend google and found something(I cant past the link because I didnt made 3 posts yet :s)
I followed it exactly, but still the same problem.

In vmware I choosed "Other 2.6.x kernel" and the drive I created was an IDE.
Does anyone knows what the problem could be? I also saw some error messages telling me that it wasnt possible to write the logfile because the directory doesnt exist(I thought it should be possible because there is a virtual drive).

Help is very appreciated! Im in my exams now :s

You set up your disk with 2gb of hard drive and told the installer it has to use that a /boot?
What exactly is it going to install the rest of the directories too? Also, I believe if you'd read the manual knoppix wants 4gb+, maybe even 5.

I found the solution. I created a dynamic virtual drive (so it expands more disk space when its needed) and now I tried to used a fixed drive. Now everything went fine.

Caeda, thanks for your reply, but you can install knoppix on 2GB (I just did it) and there is no need for the /boot.
The version I used is the newest cd version. I only need it to build my LFS.

Greetings.

Hi,

just try installing knoppix with the command

# IGNORE_CHECK=1 sudo knoppix-installer

It will work.

tried that already but did not work.

Solved the problem already. You can choose that the virtual HDD will grow if it is needed or a fixed size. (so it creates a 2GB virtual HDD from the start)
I choose the second option and it worked
