Knoppix, not bad..

Well, since i'm downloading every linux flavor on the sun i decided to check out knoppix and see what the hipe was about.

I think it's a nice looking OS, great, only one CD needed and compressed into one whole CD. Has almost everything that a big os such as Mandrake, Redhat would have..

Not something i would use as a normal OS, since it doesn't have security, but what is there to secure?

Not bad if you need to get into a computer and you don't have the admin password, just mount the windows partition, and you're in

sounds like you and I are at a similar point right now. I have also messed around with Knoppix and am working at Debian 3.

Have you tried Morphix? It's a cousin of Knoppix, with a (supposedly) easier installation to your hard drive. Almost. . . too easy.

If you want Knoppix with some more security, try knoppix-std. STD=Security Tool Distrobution. (i know what you are thinking...std...grow up) http://knoppix-std.org

Knoppix-STD isn't a secure distrobution. It's not meant to be either. It is just a set of tools that could be used in security auditing.

I'm currently a newbie and I'm wondering how to do the knoppix hdinstall. I found some instructions on the internet but when I tried them the command didn't work. Alas maybe I'll just stick with windows.

Well, why don't you tell us what kind of errors you received or what kind of troubles you had. We can't help you if you don't tell what the problem is.
