Is SLACK that much diff from all other distro's that it has to have it's own topic? Not bashing, really, I am really wondering. I tried to give it a run, but had problems with the install, maybe I will give it another go.

IMO Slack is not different, all other distros are
Slack is the simplest and keeps all it's configuration and files where they should be (Compared to UNIX) while other distros are different because they use their own paths for storing configuration and other files, other paths than the standars UNIX ones. Also most other distros are much more user friendly and easier to setup although the GUI tools are a real headache if you know how to configure things "by hand". Also i beleive Slack deserves it's own forum because the Slack community is in a need of a good forum, and the Slack forum on LQ is the only good slack forum around AFAIK. Other distros have their own support centers and official message boards while Slack's only home is here.
Did that make sense?

It is the philosophy of Slack that is different. While a lot of other major distros attempt the insulate the user from the actual OS, Slack dumps you right in the middle of it. This means that with Slack, you will likely learn more about your OS's inner workings. This feature really comes in handy when those other's fancy installers break down with your specific hardware/needs case. Slack makes it easier to do what you want by manually editing config files than with other distros.
