Is the Synaptic apt-get system for Redhat
just as good as a debian? Does Synaptic have a limited selection of packages? Should I switch to a debian system for more powerful apt-get? I really like this Redhat 8.0 and have used alot of Distros, but might be willing to go to a debian based system if the apt-get is superior to Synaptic for Redhat.

Apt-get for rpm's is not as good as for deb's with debian. It has a tendency to crash.I don't know about the latest versions but the one I tried that came with connectiva (and they ported it to rpm's in the first place) crashed the second time I used it and never worked since. Not that I tried real hard to fix it - /dev/null.

I used it in Red Hat 8 for a couple of weeks and never had a problem with it. It upgraded and installed everything fine.

I've seen the rpm apt (and synaptic) at my friends house and it didn't appear as though there were as many packages (albeit I didn't count :p).
