I could not find download for knoppix 3.6 dvd on knoppix website. Is 3.6 dvd not free to download and distribute?
iso-top.info website is selling knoppix 3.6 dvd. Is this also not available for free download?
I would appreciate if someone could clear my 'confusion' over latest knoppix dvd's not being available for downloads! I thought Knoppix was GNU/Linux and freely available for downloading and distributing?
If you have information about downloading Knoppix 3.6 DVD from knoppix website or mirrors, please post. I don't mind if it takes a week to download. An official BitTorrent link would help!
I know that knoppix 3.5 LinuxTag dvd was not available for free download and I am not looking for the LinuxTag edition. I am not looking for warez or illegal copies. If Knoppix 3.6 also is not for available for distribution, I guess I will download 3.5 dvd :-( I am hoping 3.5 dvd is available for free distribution now?
I have the 3.6 CD. One of my systems no longer has a hard disk but good amount of RAM. I can’t buy another hard disk for now, and Knoppix being my favorite live Linux flavor, it would be nice to run knoppix 3.6 off the DVD, and even otherwise I do want to checkout what’s the extra stuff on a knoppix dvd! Must be newbie curiosity
From what I have read about knoppix dvd, it has over 2 GB of compressed contents as compared to just 700 MB on a cd. Sure there must be additonal apps on the dvd, so I guess it is better to have knoppix 3.6 dvd then the 3.6 cd in the dvd drive!?
If you've already got the 3.6 CD, you've got everything you need, just as XavierP indicated. The 2G of data you refer to is the uncompressed size, and when compressed, is about 700Mg. Because Knoppix decompresses on the fly, you end up having the full distro on a CD in only 700Mg of space.
I have no idea what you might get on a Knoppix DVD from this outfit you mention, but it either would be the same 700Mg of compressed data, or the 2G of data uncompressed. I suppose that if you want to pay for something you've already got, go for it, but like I said, if you've already got the CD, you've got everything you need to run Knoppix 3.6 -- J.W.
