Installing Java 2 on Firefox 0.9

Hi!

I just downloaded and installed Firefox 0.9 as a user on a SuSE 8.2 machine. Now, I am trying to get Java to work on it so that I could use http://go.icq.com.

The problem is:
-If I follow the links on the non-working java applet window and download the link there, Firefox doesn't recognize Java to be installed (it is linked to the version ns600 of the plug-in).

-If I download the Java bin file my self and link the verion ns610-gcc32 of the plug-in, as mentionned on the Firefox FAQ webpage, the browser crashes badly while loading the applet. Error message:
INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Exec of "java_vm" failed: 2
<
System error?:: No such file or directory
INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not read ack from child process
System error?:: Resource temporarily unavailable

[1] Exit 255 firefox

-If I download the rpm file (since that would be the right way to do it on SuSE; I'm not used to rpm files...), I can't execute it since I can't be root (I am not the administrator of the network).

Is there anyone here having experienced this in Firefox 0.9 or in previous releases? Is there any other way for me to get java to work via a local installation?

Thanks!

I did solve this particular problem by making a link in my firefox/plugins directory to my java directory AND a link in my ./mozilla/plugins directory to the java directory again. I don't know yet if both are necessary but it seems to work now, so I won't mess around with it anymore!

There is still this problem I have with go.icq.com mentionned in the following thread:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=202001

If anyone is interested, please go see it and tell me what you think!

Thanks!
