Installing Inkscape on Centos 5.5 dependency problems
I cannot seem to resolve dependency issues in installing Inkscape on a newly installed CentOS 5.5. I have tried installing rpms and doing the "./configure, make, make install" approach. I keep failing because I need packages that I cannot find either in CentOS's Add/Remove software or on web sites like http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/. For example, when using ./configure, I am told that the following packages were not found.
gdkmm-2.4, glibmm-2.4, giomm-2.4, gtkmm-2.4, sigc++-2.0
However, after many hours of googling, etc., I have not yet been able to find them. I have several years experience, off and on, as an application developer in unix/linux environment, but I am pretty much a newbie as an administrator.
Thanks knudfl,
Making progress.
The following worked (after I first installed libsigc++20).
# yum install libsigc++20-devel
However, the following does not work.
# yum install gtkmm24-devel
I get "No package gtkmm24-devel available".
I get similar results with the following commands
# yum install gtkmm24
# yum install gtkmm24
... And I have no idea, why 'yum' isn't getting the packages.
But you can try # yum search gtkmm
.. to see which names they are using.
..
Thanks knudfl,
After doing some searches and installing some additional packages, I have Inkscape installed now. The only problem is that Inkscape crashes with a segmentation fault and a request that that I file a bug report at www.inkscape.org. On to the next step.
