Hello all. Im surprised that there isnt a Gentoo forum on here.
Okay, I installed Gentoo the other day with the 2.6.11_r4 kernel. I really like it, pretty easy (albeit long) to install programs. One thing I cant get working right is the brightness or gamma. My monitor's brightness is up as high as it can go, so I was looking arodun for a program to allow me to adjust gamma. I stumbled across Monica. I compiled and installed it, but it didnt work at all. I also found a guide on Linux.com telling how, but it also did not do a single thing. Does anybody know how to increase the brightness or gamma in Gentoo? If it matters im running XFCE with kernel 2.6.11_r4.
Apparently I cant post links to Monica and the Linux.com guide.

so 2.6.11.4 and what version of the X-Windows System are you using? Did you try XF86config ? Are you sure you have the right monitor selected for the X-Windows System config? What about the video controller, is the correct one listed ? Even if the monitor is listed, are you using a refresh rate the monitor can handle from the X-Windows System?
What happens with other X-Windows System window managers?
My graphics card is an S3 Savage ProDDR. I have version 6.8.2 of X Window System. Unsure about XF86config. Yes my monitor is the right one, as is my video card. Both are listed in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. And my refresh rate is 60htz.
I havent used any other window managers yet.
Im still pretty new to Linux.
I should also mention, I also tried the Gamma Correction in the XFCE's Display Settings, again, a No Go.
