how to install Gentoo linux on VMWARE ?


I want to install a Gentoo Linux on my vmware workstation 3.0,
but when I input "modprobe eepro100"(just as I install Gentoo in my another HD),but it(Intel NIC) can not be found.Why?

Ok, i'm alittle confused. VMWorkstation is a distro by itself?

no, vmware is a emulator to run an OS within a OS... its not a distro of linux.

VMWare uses a seperate interface for networking, almost like an emulated network card. In this case, the module you use is not the one of your actual NIC in your machine, but of the emulated one. modprobe pcnet32 will get you going, but it should have been automatically detected and installed.

select freebsd as guest OS,then install it

vmware 3 emulates a pcnet32 ethernet adapter. do get it work, enable in your kernel configuration step everywhere 'amd pcnet32' - that worked for me.
