Question How Install MySQL on Oracle Enterprise Linux

Good day

We have an Oracle Enterprise Linux server ( 2.6.18-92.el5PAE ). I now need to install MySQL also for a specific application but can't get it right. Please help!

What I've tried so far:

Tried to install the RPM
"rpm -ivh MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64.rpm"
This gave the following dependency errors:
error: Failed dependencies:
libc.so.6()(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2.5)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3.4)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libcrypt.so.1()(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libcrypt.so.1(GLIBC_2.2.5)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libdl.so.2()(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libdl.so.2(GLIBC_2.2.5)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libgcc_s.so.1()(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libm.so.6()(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.2.5)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libnsl.so.1()(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libpthread.so.0()(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libpthread.so.0(GLIBC_2.2.5)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libpthread.so.0(GLIBC_2.3.2)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64
libpthread.so.0(GLIBC_2.3.4)(64bit) is needed by MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64

The funny thing is - when I do "rpm -q --whatprovides" on each of the missing entries, rpm indicates that it is provided by glibc-2.5-24.
Is there a way to indicate to rpm to use the installed later glibc version?

I've also tried to install mysql via yum
"yum install mysql-server mysql"
This just come back with
Loading "security" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
No package mysql-server available.
No package mysql available.
Nothing to do

Any suggestions on what I can and should do to get MySQL installed, or
is there a restriction on Oracle Enterprise Linux that prevents MySQL from being installed.

Thanks

Hi -

"2.6.18-92.el5PAE" sounds like a 32-bit server.

"MySQL-server-community-5.1.46-1.rhel5.x86_64.rpm" is definitely a 64-bit RPM.

Q: Have you tried the standard (32-bit) MySQL RPM?

Thanks paulsm4. Info is that the server is 64bit, but the 32bit installation did the trick.
Thanks
