how can i create my own distro

online books, tutorials, etc. please.
(and please don't say anything about lfs. I've already wasted a weekend comiling programs, configuring bootscripts etc. to find it wouldn't boot [By the way i know what i did wrong now])

I would start by compiling a list of key features that do not exist elsewhere and which will be the discriminator in choosing your distro. Then start doing the compiling and script-writing for specific modules/functionalities. The amount of work depends on how much you want to change but, if you are going to have something that is fundamentally different from what's out there, then I would guess that you will need at least an order of magnitude more than one weekend.

All i want to do is change the programs inside, and customize it a bit so it will work well on college computers as a live cd.
