Help installing Firefox on RedHat 6.2!
Hello everyone,
Just a simple question, how can I install Firefox on RedHat 6.2?, I have googled it for a day now to no avail, so can anyone please, please tell me how to do it? Thanks in advance... P.S. I can't update to a more recent version becuase I have an old computer for this install, it's a Penitum II 350 Mhz, 4 GB HDD and 32 MB RAM. |
If you use Firefox 1.5 you don't have to install it - just download the .tar.gz from mozilla.org, uncompress it somewhere and run the file firefox.

Okay, I see. I suppose that's the problem with using an outdated version of a distro.

Besides, on a computer that old Firefox is going to run like a dog anyhow, even if you did have the prereqs for installing it. Firefox is well known for its use of large amounts of memory, and I don't think 32 MB is going to cut it. You're better off trying to find a minimal Web browser such as Dillo.

Thanks everybody for the posts... as you might have guess I'm a newbie to linux so here it goes... I tried to compile/install gtk2 but my box complained about the lack of a zillion dependences, tried to compile those dependences but again complained about the lack of more dependences, so I got lost... I know my test computer is maybe too old for firefox, but, with the newest version of damn small linux firefox run acceptable, so I thought I could also expect a better perfomance on an older redhat distro, so, I'm still interested in installing and testing it on rh6x so could anybody tell me where can I get the rpms or how to do it?
Thanks in advance... P.S. Can't use dillo 'cos I need frame support, can't use dsl 'cos the OS is to heavy for 32 MB, maybe you can recommend something more light.... |
