Question Help installing, compiling Drivers for Netgear Network card on SuSE 9.0

When i go to install SuSE, you need to load the module for your netowrk card. When you select your module, it asks you to enter your parameters. What does this mean and what do I need to enter? I am using my backup computer and the good one is sittting on the install screen for SuSE. Please Help me FAST!

*UPDATE*
OK. Here is what I have figured out, but I still need help:

The driver module for the FA311 does not come with the Boot CD
The name of the driver is natsemi.o

I cant compile this (A)Because I dont know how (B)Because I am using Windows XP

Help!!!

Thanks!

Have you tried leaving the parameters blank? Usually it is only necessary to enter parameters when autodetection fails (usually with old equipment or software). Suse is pretty good at autodection last I saw.

Thats the problem, and untill you get a recognized NIC that your distro supports you are out of luck. Just like windows has a hardware compatibility list, so do linux distros.

Might as well save yourself a lot of future aggravation and be prepared to purchase hardware that is already supported in the kernel. If a piece of hardware will not work in linux I just will not buy it, period.

The good news is that NICs are cheap these days, usually less than 20 bucks.

For me the realtek 8139 chipset in the D-Link NIC has always worked in every distro that I have used so far, so I would expect that any brand NIC with a 8139 chipset would work.

Download the driver on to your windows drive

i'm assuming your using dual boot

once u get into linux make a folder then mount your xp partition

i use slack 9.1

mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /c

from there u can copy over anything u wish. just make sure u dont do anything on ur hd copy everything over to your linux partition
