Half way through gentoo install, I get problems.... logger won't compile(I think)

Well, I'm halfway through the Gentoo install, I'm on page 41 of 99 in the gentoo handbook(for those of you who have it printed out). I'm trying to install a system logger, but, I try to emerge syslog-ng, I get this error

make*** No rule to make target 'j3'. stop

!!!ERROR: dev-libs/libol-0.3.17 failed.

So, that is the problem. Any input? did I configure my make.conf wrong?

Because, I needed help, then omgwtfdiedlol helped me out before anyone on here did.
