Goblin Mini 2.7 on USB

I just wanted to write this before I forgot.

Anyway, while distro hopping trying to find something that would work for a small distro I could put onto a USB, and something that might run faster on older computers that have the capabilities to boot from USB. I had found several distro's, but only tested two so far. Slax 6.0.7 (I think, don't quote me on that) with KDE, and Goblinx mini 2.7 with Xfce.

Now, the point of this is the liloinst.sh file on Goblinx mini. It didn't work. The problem was a few lines in the sh file that were causing the problem. So if anyone happens to have a problem with running the liloinst.sh try removing these lines

Code:

vga=791
bitmap = /etc/goblinx.bmp
bmp-colors = 8,0,0,14,0,0
bmp-table = 377p,65p,1,6
bmp-timer = 290p,305p,8,0,0
vga=791

And replace them with
Code:

install=text
I still got a few warnings, but when I rebooted the computer it loaded.

And on a side note, surprisingly enough, Slax is still on the top of my list. I'm right now typing this out on Goblinx mini 2.7 on a 2.0ghz 512mb machine and it is running much much slower than Slax does running KDE.

What I do when I distro hop, one thing that I love about Slax (which I'm sure every USB capable distro is able to do) is that when I want to try another distro, all I have to do is create an archive of the distro I have on my USB, and delete the files off of the usb, except for my wpa_supplicant configuration file. Then copy the files of the other distro over, and launch the liloinst.sh and voila, I have a bootable USB linux distro I can take with me anywhere.

Slax uses a stripped KDE while GoblinX has the original, probably a little slower... I have a machine worst than yours but it works fast... Xfce is much more faster than any KDE... I use inside a 1GB pendrive and works great...
