gentoo worth keeping??

I got gentoo installed for a little time now.I do have a hell of a time to get certain things to work i.e. galeon. It seems to me that their depencies are on the flaky side.Is that just me or does anybody else have the same problems? If it's me I give it a try if not i give it /dev/null.I don't want to spent my time compiling everything from source just to find out that it doesn't work.Rather go LFS then.

doesn't emerge galeon work for you? try emerge --pretend galeon to check for the dependencies.
You need to check /etc/make.conf for the correct flag use which will reflect your system settings.

I still don't know what was wrong. It told me that moz 1.0rc3 was masked but it wasn't.Galeon 1.2.1 wouldn't compile because of gnome and gtk dependencies - got gnome2 and gtk2 and it seems to like gnome 1.4 and gtk 1.2.
I finally did emerge portage and then emerge rsync. Then it worked with galeon1.2.5 - well sort of .First compiled xfree all over again and then various gnomelibs and mozilla.Took about 4 hrs.
All that aside i don't see it being any faster then debian at all - galeon takes about 9sec. to come up the first time with both.
Looks like gentoo will go /dev/null
