Smile gentoo resolution / nvidia


Hello. Last night i installed gentoo. it took over 16 hours to compile it n stuff

well anyway i emerged kde and when i go into KDE i get 1280x1024 @ 8 bit colors

also in the manual it said change the /etc/X11/XF86Config's nv in device section to nvidia if u have a nvidia card after u run all those commands they tell u
i did that if my nv is changed to nvidia my screen goes blank /stanby mode



anyhelp would be appreciated

Did you emerge the nvidia drivers?

emerge nvidia-kernel

yup, did everything the manual said

ps. on second thought the nv thing doesnt really bother me, i just want my scrren @ 1024x768 @ 24 or 32 bit colors

and i cant find out where to do that

Check your /etc/X11/XF86Config file for a section like this:

Code:
Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device     "Videocard0"
        Monitor    "Monitor0"
        DefaultDepth     24
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth     24
                Modes     "1280x1024"

ya i changed that too, didnt do anything,, anyway i think i will try slackware

i think it will be a good experience (read ur news posts on ur site)
