Gentoo, "Module load failure" when starting X

hi. i have just run xorgconfig and im trying to run startx but it says

Also defined in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libbitmap.a

Fatal server error:
Module load failure
can anyone help? thanks in advance ben

There seems to be a bug with the 'hardened' use flag and gcc:

what do i do with that link?
im using xorg-x11-6.8.0-r1. used emerge to install it, so it should be th latest version! thanks
