I was wondering...
Gentoo looks interesting distro, but how laborous it is to maintain compared to, say, Slackware?
I think I could spend the time getting it up and running, but I don't have the time to update stuff monthly, and if pretty much new install is needed after 6 months of no updating, it's not for me.
The machine I have in mind would be a hobby programming machine, and I have a couple of other machines for other stuff.
Gentoo is rolling release, so if you don't bork the system yourself there is never a need for a re-install. Upgrading the system basically comes down to reading the news (provided by the package manager) to be aware of important changes and issuing a single command and just waiting until the upgrade finishes.
