Gentoo -- genkernel does not work in installation for me

I have a problem when I followed the stage 1 install guide and when I come to genkernel. This is a summary of what I have done... partitions (1ntfs, 1boot, 1root, 1swap), network up, did tar -xvjpf stage1, chroot, emerge sync, make.conf, emerge sys, fstab

Now this is where my problem starts..

Code:
emerge -k gentoo-sources
emerge -k genkernel
genkernel
**doesnt work**
emerge -k sys-kernel/gentoo-sources
emerge -k genkernel
genkernel
**doesnt work**
emerge -k gentoo-sources
emerge -k genkernel; genkernel
** doesnt work**
Those three were three different installations I have done (because each time I thought i missed something when I installed, so I did it over AT LEAST three times)

The problem is what happened after I tried genkernel this is what I see on the screen, and this isnt supposed to happen in the installation guide. I am not sure what do with the options so if you know how to make the options work I would appreciate it.

genkernel output:
Code:
--no-color Do not output debug in color
 Kernel Compile setting
--menuconfig Run menu config after oldconfig
--no-menuconfig Do no run meny config after oldconfig
--mrproper Run make mrproper before compilation
--clean Run make clean before compilation
--no-clean Do not run make clean before compilation
And the list contines to Low-Level Compile Settings, internals, misc settings, outpur settings.. I would think these options are available onthe internet.

I have no idea what to do

I ran into this same problem and just followed the Gentoo-installation-handbook's instructions to compile a kernel by hand during installation. This method worked far better that the genkernel approach you are doing.

Otherwise, I don't and haven't found a solution to your problem but you might want to ask at the Gentoo.org forums.

If it is a newer genkernel, and not a non-grp install, then the command is "genkernel all" without the quots. if you are using reiserfs then make sure to type "genlernel all --menuconfig" because you need to change reiserfs from beaing compiled as a module to beaing compiled directly into the kernel or it wont boot.
hopw this fixed your problem. gentoo isn't the easiest to to install, io should know because i just finally got it to work myself, but it is rewarding when you finally get it to work! I would recomend doing a non-grp install so that you get the lettest package updates.
