I read that some guys use gentoo on production servers and stuff but I don't see how it would be a sensible choice to waste your CPU cycles with recompiling every time a security patch shows up.
But it definitely is great to learn what you are not supposed to do and trying to fix it after you did just that.
Plus if you update something and it doesn't work you normally know at least what is screwed up.Can't say the same about package system distro's.

I have installed Gentoo last week, it went rather straightforward. You do have to use yur brains but that is wat is makeing it interesting and fun. The compile takes a (very) long time even on a 1800XP-system. Now i am stuck with KDE. It complains about not being able to open the nessecary start-up files from KDE. Any hints. (i startde in root and as normal user still the same)
