Gentoo - eth0 works with livecd why doesn't it inside linux?

Hi folks,

I just tried to start installing programs on my brand new gentoo distro but I got stopped when my computer tried to download a file from sourceforge.

So I did the usual ping google.com, checked /etc/resolv.conf and did ifconfig.

When I try ifconfig eth0 i get:
Code:

eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
The thing is is that i can use the network when i am using the live cd... HELP!!!

Cheers
Chris

Sounds like you missed some support - with Gentoo I'd compile it in, although a module is also an option of course.
Throw the liveCD back in, and do a lsmod, and look for any likely candidates.

yer i just started the live CD then mount /dev/hda3 /mnt/gentoo then cd /mnt/gentoo/usr/src/linux then make menuconfig then i added the driver for my network card. I then Recompiled the kernel!

:D
