Regarding those scripts, you can copy them from that wiki page. There is no package to install with them.

Hi Emerson,

Performed following steps;

# nano /etc/acpi/lid.sh
# nano /etc/acpi/events/lid
# nano /etc/acpi/power.sh
# nano /etc/acpi/events/power
# nano /etc/acpi/events/sleep.sh
# nano /etc/acpi/events/sleep
# nano /etc/acpi/events/battery
copied respective files on wiki page on them

# chmod -c +x /etc/acpi/lid.sh
Code:
mode of `/etc/acpi/lid.sh' changed to 0755 (rwxr-xr-x)

# rc-update add acpid default
Code:
 * acpid already installed in runlevel 'default'; skipping
# /etc/init.d/acpid restart
Code:
 * ACPI support has not been compiled into the kernel
# /etc/init.d/acpid start
Code:
 * ACPI support has not been compiled into the kernel

At this juncture which steps shall I perform to recompile the kernel:-

1)
following the document;
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/genkernel.xml

OR
2)
Perform following steps as root;
Code:
cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig

make && make modules_install

cp ./arch/x86_64/boot/bzImage /boot/bzImage-version_info
TIA

Not used to gentoo (used it a while ago), but for building, second choice is a safe path ... Just be careful not to overwrite your current kernel until you're sure your brand new one will boot ... (might require to update your bootloader config file)

You also might want to use "make oldconfig" instead of "make menuconfig" if the only thing you want to change to your existing config is acpi support ...

Having your own kernel is the way to go indeed. Still, I tend to believe genkernel has acpi module. Why don't you give it a try.
Code:
modprobe acpi
If it works you may want to autoload it, put it in /etc/modules.autoload.d/<kernelversion>.

Code:
modprobe acpi
I tried it before.

# modprobe acpi
Code:
FATAL: Module acpi not found.
