Gentoo 1.4rc576

Just needing to rant about Gentoo. Anyone else getting tired of their constant release of release candidates? There must be a major problem with them that they can't come out with a solid release...
I know for a while I really liked their distro, but with their unwillingness to release 1.4final after what, close to half a YEAR now of rc's, I can't say I have any confidence in Gentoo anymore.
So, can anyone recommend a distro that's similar to Gentoo in that it compiles from source yet is simple, yet has people working on it that have enough knowledge that they're distro actually releases stable releases, not rc's?

I really don't see the argument against it. Releasing a standard release when they are not 100% confident in it should never be advised.... just loko at redhat 8.0 to see the utter mess of a distro that was. Also though it's not on a level playing field, gentoo doesn't NEED to release a final... emerge -u world will update to the very newest version of *everything* which no other distro can vaguely do afaik... gentoo is brilliant, stick with it, you know it's great.

mplayer was doing pre's and rc's of 0.90 for 14 months, and that's a superb bit of kit.
