Fedora Core 3 hangs on "Updating Kernel Configuration"

I just upgraded from Fedora Core 1 to Core 3 and after the installation the system hangs on "Updating Kernel Configuration." Has anyone run into this problem. I'm running an old machine: AMD K7 500mHz (I know, I know: ouch). Thanks...
