Favourite Distro??

Hi everyone!

I'm new to linux and I have Redhat 8 running at the moment. Now that I'm getting more comfortable I'd like to try out some other distros! So.....

Please post your favourite distro, and a little explanation of WHY!

Thanks

I DID do a search! And I DID see that post. However NO ONE posted WHY they like the distro they chose!

I want to know WHY you like it. What features work better on which distro etc.....what does one have that the other doesn't....etc...

So please post explanations.

thanks

you won't get a real answer to these questions, because one does not exist. If you really are undecided, try a couple: often such things as the distro's main goals, mission plan, method of getting things done, etc. (found on the distro's page) can give you a good enough idea if you want to try it out.

Well, I like Mandrake because the Mandrake community is there to help you in any way they can. I am also fond of there "drake" tools. Their Power Pack edition is chocked full of apps and you can find Mandrake specific rpms just about everywhere.

I like SuSE because their seem to support just about everything that Windows does. I installed SuSE 8.1 on my PC at work. It found the Officejet G85 and configured it! Windows XP can't even do that. I also like that it comes on 7 cd and one dvd (deluxe edition). It too comes loaded with tons of apps. However, SuSE specific rpms are harder to find.

I like Libranet, because of ADMINMENU. It makes configuring the distro a breeze. It is Debian based so software is an apt-get away. The community is solid as well. A lot of helpful folks there.

Finally, I just started working with Vector Linux and am impressed with its speed and ease of use. VASM is the configuration utility and is very simple to use. I loaded onto a Dell CPi, 366mhz PII laptop with no problems (other than the touchpad setup, which took minutes to fix). It is very quick on the laptop and has me really thinking about replacing Mandrake 9.0 on my mainbox. It is Slackware based with all of the latest software. Even KDE 3.1.

I left out Redhat, because even though I am a registered user, I just never saw the greatest in it. I will say that it is solid as a server. But I mainly use Linux on the desktop. My two servers are running RedHat, however. It rocks as a server platform!
