ext3 is it slower ????

the subject line is really the question can ext3 be slower because of the journaling that comes with it I soon will be upgrading to Redhat 7.2 and was wondering if i should select the old faithful ext2 my SAMBA server is running great considering it runs an K6-2 350@400
30 Gig 7200 RPM HDD with 192Meg Ram
this is RedHat 7.0 with 2.4.2 kernel

PS: before you ask why the upgrade
my response would be why not

imho if it ain't broke don't fix it. i've been running ext3 with 7.2 and i find it to be faster than ext2. if u'r server is getting hammered then i would recommend the upgrade otherwise i'd say leave it.

i've only noticed the diff. under high usage. bearly noticeable in normal use. just my opinion. :)
