Email for multiple users on Suse 8.1

I have set up individual user accounts on Suse 8.1 for each member of my family. I would like to automatically connect to the internet when any user logs on,download email and route it to each user according to email address whoever is logged in. (We're using ADSL, if that's relevant)

Previously when using (Sorry, I'm about to use the W word) Windows ME we just had one user setup so used rules to put emails into different folders.

I have searched the web and can only find fairly general descriptions of how to setup email, mostly for much earlier versions, and nothing that will do what I want (unless I'm reading them wrong)

I am a returner to *nix as I used to work on SCO Xenix and Unix about 10 years ago, but haven't had the opportunity to use it again until now.

Please could anyone point me in the direction of any sites which will give me a clear description of what I want to do.

Sorry, my skills are so rusty that I don't even know if I'm asking a really basic question or one that will tax an expert.
Apologies if it's the former.
(I'll happily RTFM if you can tell me where the FM is )

Welcome to LQ! What you want to retrieve mail from remote POP3 servers is called "fetchmail". Combine it with "procmail" if you want filtering capabilities as well.
