Easy way to create distro? Any stripped to the WM distros?

I swear there use to be a website that allowed you to pick the packages you want, and then it would create an ISO that you could download and burn for a custom little distro. Searching around, I can't seem to find it.

I'd like to make something with decent driver support (get graphics on the screen, detect USB ports, ethernet, etc) but to come with a base amount of extras. Basically XFCE (with no thrills like a calculator/notepad) and Firefox. That's it.

Any ideas thoughts?

I think Slax is something like that, add whatever modules you want. Have a look at it:

There are a number of ways to create your own distro. What you describe sounds like NimbleX, where you just click the mouse a few times and you've got a distro.

Fedora offers revisor. Debian has a similar but more difficult project. Then there is the remaster capability of Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, and other distros. There is also rpath.

Edit: In addition, have you tried just a minimal installation? Most distros offer that. It's the least amount of work. This is a guide for a minimal install on Ubuntu:
