Does anyone use Scientific Linux?
I downloaded Scientific Linux and I am installing it, does anyone run/use it.
Any advice tips would be great. Thanks |
I've only tried it out; I couldn't use it because it doesn't support my sound chip.
The documentation for CentOS was useful, particularly the information about setting up the EPEL and RPMFusion repositories, and using yum-priority so that they don't compromise the stability of your system. Otherwise, it was all much the same as using Fedora (and presumably RHEL). |
Yes, I have SL6 installed on a spare computer (though I don't use it every day). As you probably know, it is in the family of Red Hat/CentOS and therefore is very well documented and supported. Let us know if you have specific questions, enjoy! :)

to have an in house common OS. So I guess that many of the 30,000 CERN employees use it. ( I have two installs of SL 6.0 ). |
As always Linux Questions is GREAT!
I have installed it, I may have a few questions should I post them in this forum or is there another location that is preferred? Thank you again! :) |
I do -- see the sig. below
I use software designed for the lab and Univ. ISIS3 from the usgs and nasa http://isis.astrogeology.usgs.gov/index.html and "NASA Ames Stereo Pipeline" http://ti.arc.nasa.gov/tech/asr/inte...cs/ngt/stereo/ now rhel5.4 would be better but it runs on SL6 these do not run on fedora nor opensuse11.3 ( think suse 10.1 ) |

Scientific Linux 6 is great. I installed it in a 1G/1Cpu VM and it booted up completely in under 10 seconds.
Great distro. And really, if its good enough for Fermi and CERN, its good enough for me. FYI: Some of the external Repo's haven't caught up with the release of 6 yet. |
