Distros: Highest number of packages ?

What distro has the highest number of packages ?

acid_kewpie 10-29-2005 06:31 AM

how do you measure this? (why do you care??) and if you're including every apt repo, then the sky is the limit...

Roughly about the same number, but Debian hits the score. Debian comes with over 15490 packages (precompiled software that is bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine) all of it free.

Debian has the highest amount of binary packages, without adding any 3rd party repos... After that FreeBSD has more than any other Linux... with just under 14,000 in ports...

Not 100% sure, but I think Gentoo would probably come next... I think they have a little over 12,000?

Probably, and then I'm guessing would be RPM?

not necessarily at all.. just because rpm is a popular format doesn't mean they are native to that distro.. suse rpms are not interchangable with redhat rpms.... suse actually doesn't have an extremely large amount of native software, however it does have most software that people need to run a fully function desktop..
