Distros for a Dell Inspiron 1100 and Compaq Presario 2200

I'm new to linux, I have been using Ubuntu Studio in a virtual machine with different amounts of virtual ram in a host Asus a54c with 4096mb ram for some time, now I want several distros for my older laptops

1.-To install in the dell or compaq for image, audio and video edition that can work fine with low ram. That has good media and hardware support, a very graphical customizable user interface.

2.-I also want live CD/USB that can either help to or clean by itself virus, rootkits and all that bad stuff that tends to acummulate in shared laptops specially in laptops with Windows.

3.-Besides that I would like a secure distro for online monetary transaction either live CD/USB or that can be installed in my Compaq Presario 2200.

I have read a little bit about Puppy, Slitaz, Damn Small Linux, Crunchbang, Bodhi, Lubuntu, Knoppix, CAINE (Computer Aided INvestigative Environment), Lightweight Portable Security (LPS), Pentoo, QubesOs and DEFT (Digital Evidence & Forensic Toolkit), but the more I read the more confused I become, I can not add more ram to my laptops and I don't have the patience needed nor the knowledge to try them all the distros I have read about and find out by myself wich is better for my needs. I'm sorry if the post is too long I will put some specs below.

Compaq Presario 2200
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
BIOS: Phoenix NoteBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1300MHz
222MB RAM
Page file: 55MB, 484MB available
37GB C Drive Hard Drive

Dell Inspiron 1100
OS: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp.080413-2111)
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A32
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz
376MB RAM
Page File: 296MB used, 1544MB available
74.5GB C Drive Hard Drive

For virus and rootkit elimination, I'd use SystemRescueCD

As a general repair kit, it's saved my bacon on a couple of occasions.

For the banking, I'd advise a distro that enables you to encrypt your /home partation at installation (in fact I always advise that for any laptop — they're so easy to steal). Couple that with the need to run in less than 256MB and we get ZevenOS (Xfce desktop) or ZorinOS Lite (LXDE desktop).

The 1100 uses a crap i810 video chip that reserves a minimal amount of shared RAM and relies on a Windoze driver to increase that at boot time. These days the default (Linux) Intel driver should handle it for you.
I managed to get several distros to run several years ago - see my previous posts on the subject. I tossed it out when the screen broke. FWIW I quite liked Bohdi when I recently looked at it on limited hardware.
