Hello - I'd like to find out which distros support XGL the best. What I'm thinking about using is Fedora Core release 6 when it comes out. I know of some of the distros that have good XGL support such as Suse, Ubuntu, Gentoo (maybe), and Mandriva, but I should ask here to get a full list and details. I just hosed my Debian Etch system trying to install XGL by probably not following the best directions I found through google. It would have been great if it had worked because I was planning on sticking with Debian Etch for a while.
Mandriva 2007 and SLED 10 have the best XGL and compiz support out of the box. You just need to click on an option in the control panel, logout then back in again and the 3d effects will be enabled. Mandriva 2007 supports both XGL and AIGLX out of the box. Fedora Core 6 will use AIGLX and so far it works really well (I am using an nvidia card with the beta 9xxx drivers). When you install compiz, an entry is made in the menu and you can use that to enable or disable 3d effects.

Can you tell any difference when using XGL compared to using AIGLX? What about performance? Graphics? Resource usage such as memory and cpu? Anything else?

I've mainly been using distros with AIGLX and so far I have not noticed much difference in terms of resource usage when compared to the distros that I installed XGL. I am using compiz as the window manager, so all 3d effects are the same whether using AIGLX or XGL.
