Try Slax from http://slax.linux-live.org/

It's the business!

AlphaAddict 10-11-2005 07:47 AM

whoa im looking for something a little smaller :)

Slax is a relatively small install. It uses compression technology which means that the whole thing takes up only about 180-200MB, dependant upon which additional optional modules you put in.

There are other distos available, but the smaller you go, the less functionality you get.

For example, DSL (Damn Small Linux) takes up only 50MB, but has a very basic window manager and lacks functionality in comparison.

If you don't like these, you could try Flash Linux (Gnome desktop only, but very nice) or Deep Water Linux.

Just download the iso's, boot from CD, see which you prefer and install that one to your memstick.

i only have 256mb free to bring the iso home any smaller ones?

Isn't there something called Mini-Slack?
Well, in any case, you could also try Damn Small Linux or Puppy Linux.
And it really doesn't matter if something starts off looking terrible--you can always theme, change icons, wallpaper, etc.

Would users of your excellent forums please refrain from helping this THIEF.

He stole the USB key from college. Even admitted as much in a different forum.

He didn't even backup the data on it.

Your call, folks.

AlphaAddict - did you know that USB actually stands for Unscrupulous Scum Bag?

Why don't you try standing in a bucket of water and plugging your USB key into the national grid?

Hopefully, that will turn you into a distribution of your very own!
