Okay, so I booted on my Debian 3.0r1 CD, and started to install using the 'bf24' config. I tried to install my network driver (It's a realtek, and I thought Debian would have support for it..) and no luck. So I tried with the older 'vanilla' option, and it had support. So right now I am using a old 2.2 kernel and ext2 because the vanilla install doesn't have ext3/riserfs and it doesn't use a new kernel. Can someone help me either get ext3 fs support or help with drivers so I can use the network.. The card is some sort of realtek card, and vanilla has support for it.
If it does then go ahead a reinstall the bf24 flavor. When the installation program prompts you to select the kernel modules to install, pick the one called "8139too". Then it will help you configure it.
As for ext3 support, I don't think the bf24 kernel includes it, so you will have to compile a new kernel. Don't worry about it for know, you won't have to do any crazy reinstallation to change from ext2 to ext3 partitions. Info on that is in many places on this forum.
Alright. I compiled a new kernel for it (2.4.21) and I messed something up.. There is no longer eth support, even tho I compiled in the Realtek (In "Network Device Support" -> "Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit)" -> "EISA, VLB, PCI and on board controllers" -> "RealTek RTL-8139 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter support") drivers and I checked all the options..
I got my problems all worked out.. But, my friends Mandrake (We are trying to get Debian, but drivers are being wacked) 9.1 won't let him run `lspci`.. Is there a special command for Mandrake that does that!?
I thought that comand was standard, but now that I look at it, it's not. It's part of a package called `pciutils' on Debian maybe there's a similar package for Mandrake?
