compile kernel - Debian Way

Just what is the Debian way to compile the lernel?

Ihe instructions say to use

make-kpkg clean

I suppose they mean ...
make -kpkg clean

but the "g" parameter is not recognized.

Can someone help me with this?

thanks

I found my own answer to this. You need to install the package "kernel-package" (or something like that.

This package is awsome. It compiles, installs, and updates LILO with one command. Awsome.
