Chroot problems in Gentoo 1.4: Illegal Instruction

Before I start, I've searched and searched. I've found this, but it didn't help me out.

I'm using an AMD K-6 450MhZ.

I followed the Gentoo instruction manual perfectly and this happens:
Code:
/# chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
Illegal instruction
I'm not exactly sure what's wrong. Any help? Thanks

If you've already read that link, I'll assume you're using the basic x86 Stage 1 ISO and are still getting that error. In that case, if you still have the original ISO file you downloaded, have you tried checking it's MD5SUM against what Gentoo post in the FTPs? You could possibly have a slightly corrupt ISO that burns and boots OK but cocks up when your try to run certain commands.

Could be a hardware problem also though ... first check the md5 sums like LSD suggested, next check your hardware (RAM, CPU, Motherboard)
