Cent OS 5.2 on IBM Eserver xseries 335 Quesitions

Hi Everyone.

I have been using linux on and off for many years now, since the days of Corel Linux 1 lol!

Anyway i have a few questions about CentOS 5.2 on my machine.

The Spec is:

IBM eServer Xseries 335 With -
2x Dual Core 2.8Ghz Intel Xeon Processors
4Gb Ram
2x Gbit Network ports
2x 36.4Gb SCSI Drives running in RAID1

When installing CentOS the one of the drives in the raid array had a flashing amber light indicating that there was a problem with the drive this continued all the way through the installation and after 3 hours of uptime after the installation it stopped. Is this normal in a RAID Config?

Does centos support multiple multi core processors? when i look in the system monitor only one of the 4 cpus shows any activity and every so often it switches to a different processor is this normal or should the load be balanced?

What could i do to put this machine under a bit of strain to see how it performs?

Are there any major differences between Redhat and CentOS?

Im sure that i will think of mare later on.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Your amber light probably indicated it was in the process of mirroring the drive, not that it's faulty. Read your manufacturer specifications for the drive light indications.

As for the mulitple CPU's, where are you seeing just one? What do you get on a cat /proc/cpuinfo? Are you booting with an SMP kernel to support multiple CPU's?

The only difference between CentOS and RHEL is the logo, from what I've experienced.

Ok thanks for that.

If i look in the processes it shows 4 lines in the graph for the 4 cpus at it seems to alternate between the 4 i will see if i can get a screen dump when im at work.
