checking host system type... no_compiler_found: not found
i386-unknown-freebsd7.1
checking target system type... i386-unknown-freebsd7.1
checking build system type... i386-unknown-freebsd7.1
checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c

*** The command 'cc -o conftest -g  conftest.c' failed.
*** You must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler.

you need to install gcc and all it's dependencies, but to be asking a question like that I would wonder if this is anything like what you want to do. If there is a precompiled rpm / deb etc. that already exists for your system you really should try that first instead of compiling yourself, it's so much easier. What distro are you running? What are you trying to install?

Im installing eggdrop on a freebsd 7.1 server.
