Question Booting problem


Hello

I'm trying to boot knoppix Linux form CDROM. While booting, it constantly giving me following error. so i cannot able to boot system using knoppix linux.

hdc: irq timeout: status=0x80 { Busy }
hdc: ATAPI reset complete

hdc: ATAPI reset complete

Please help me solve this problem..

This is most likely a hardware problem with your IDE chipset. What IDE chipset are you using? You may have to open up the case and read the number off the IDE chipset on the motherboard.

Another possibility is that you are using an 80 pin IDE cable when you need a 40 pin cable or vice-versa.

Or it could be that your kernel does not have the proper support compiled in for your IDE chipset. What distribution are you using? Most distributions throw in support for every known chipset. Many people, myself included, compile their own kernel and throw out all of the chipset software that they don't need. Did you compile your own kernel and leave out a necessary piece of chipset software?
