Best linux for Install?
hey all,
I am new to linux and the boards and it's going to be fun messing around with linux, but I was wondering what is the most up to date/ best linux to use, or are they all really different? Im wanting to use one for an internet server after I get to know howto use it, so thanks for Reading :) Mike |
mbags; all well and good but it is subjective. that is unless u are a follower?
best way is to research, investigate what would be best for you and what ur needs are? as for suggestions (this is where subjective is) my preference mdk, rh,libranet. etc. most all distro,s have server ability,s. up to recently linux was mainly server based. it is up to u to choose for ur needs now & future. any way welcome to linux and enjoy! it is great, am still learning & a newbie too. |
Firstly, Welecome to LQ :D
Believe it or not, you are not the first person to ask this question. Short answer is "all of them" - they are as up to date or as out of date as you make them. Long answer is: Have a look at the Linux-Distributions forum - lots of people ask this and the opinions are in each thread Go to the LQ Distro Review Section - where a large number of distros are reviewed. Go to DistroWatch - where an even larger number of distros are reviewed Finally, grab some and try them out - most of us here have tried 3 or 4 or more distro until we hit onone that was 'right'. Have fun! |
