Question Best Firewall/Application Server Distribution

Hi guys,

I have one question. I want a distribution for firewall, with dhcp server, traffic shaping, etc, just like pfSense. It has all the things I want from "firewall" point of view, but on the other hand I want a distribution with Apache server, MySQL, etc, and these aren't installed in pfSense and I can't install them. For "application" point of view I liked OpenSUSE.

Can you tell me a distribution that can satisfy my needs?

Any linux distro should be able to fulfil your needs however these are really 2 different server roles - firewall and app server, are you sure you want to combine them ?

Plus, if you use the traffic shaping in pfSense, you may be hard pressed to replicate it easily with another distro

Yes, I know these roles shouldn't be combined, but I don't have an extra server to make one firewall and one application server. All I want is an application server, with some firewall functions, such as traffic shaping. I tried installing HTB on OpenSUSE but it didn't worked.

No probs, I haven't set up linux for qos before... I found this: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Traffic-Contro...uirements.html

On my Fed 11 the support seems to exist (at least as modules) for QOS:
Code:
root@xxxxxx ~# grep CONFIG_NET_SCH /boot/config-2.6.30.9-90.fc11.i586
CONFIG_NET_SCHED=y
CONFIG_NET_SCH_CBQ=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_HTB=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_HFSC=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_ATM=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_PRIO=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_MULTIQ=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_RED=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_SFQ=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_TEQL=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_TBF=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_GRED=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_DSMARK=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_NETEM=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_DRR=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_INGRESS=m
CONFIG_NET_SCH_FIFO=y
root@xxxxxx ~# grep CONFIG_NET_CLS /boot/config-2.6.30.9-90.fc11.i586
CONFIG_NET_CLS=y
CONFIG_NET_CLS_BASIC=m
CONFIG_NET_CLS_TCINDEX=m
CONFIG_NET_CLS_ROUTE4=m
CONFIG_NET_CLS_ROUTE=y
CONFIG_NET_CLS_FW=m
CONFIG_NET_CLS_U32=m
CONFIG_NET_CLS_RSVP=m
CONFIG_NET_CLS_RSVP6=m
CONFIG_NET_CLS_FLOW=m
CONFIG_NET_CLS_CGROUP=y
CONFIG_NET_CLS_ACT=y
CONFIG_NET_CLS_IND=y
root@xxxxxx ~#
Also found this gui: http://www.mastershaper.org/index.php/MasterShaper

Like I said before.. it may not be straight forward to setup traffic shaping

good luck
