best distrubition for nas server and p2p download server and web server
 

I am gonna have a new internet connection and i am interested in using my old pc as a server for downloading from p2p apps(DC,edonkey,torrent, etc.) and sites also to be like a nas for my small network at home. moreover i am thinking to make it a web server (mail,http,ftp) via dyndns.org for experiment. finally i am thinking to use it as router the adsl modem is to be connected via usb and then via ethernet with the router. Also i want to have a graphical interface and to control it remotely from a windows pc from a program such as tighvnc. The configuration of my old pc is:
pentium III 800Mhz
Qdi advance 9
80 Gb + 320 Gb maxtor hard disk (the second one is new)
ethernet card
adsl modem avm fritz fon (it was free with my provider)
router usr9108( i bought it for my previous connection)

There is no "best" - which distro do you feel most comfortable administering?

i haven't much experience in linux so i would like an easy one with good support.
I thought that a good one was gentoo but it needs much time for installing and setting up the server the adsl's speed would be 1024kbps. i want a stable system that it would be on allthe time and it would be run easily in the system configuration i described

Go with CentOS - it's pretty straightforward to set up, is based off Red Hat and, more importantly, many people here use it so you'll be able to get lots of help :)

i am wondering if it is better to put fedora or debian slckware gentoo (first of all iam thinking of fedora ) because they have better support more rpms and more documention howtos etc than centos and generally are easier from centos?

Fedora is the bleeding edge community distribution from Red Hat. CentOS is RHEL with the RH logos ripped out. Debian and Slackware and Gentoo are all great server distros, but CentOS is used all over the net because it has the RH history.

but it doesn't have good support or updates for example i want to put a gigabit ethernet d-link dge-528t and it doesn't work because it has old kernel 2.6.9.0.03.EL and it doesn't have much apps and libraries for installing or compiling some apps. Fedora doesn't have server properties, is'nt good enough. I thought that because it has it's origins at red hat i thought that it would be similar to centos about the tools to setup apache or samba server etc
