Is there a distro that is best-suited for media (specifically audio) recording?
I looked at some old posts, but this seems to be an as yet unresolved issue in Linux. The solutions available seem piecemeal at best. I am a current Windows XP user; I record a lot of audio, both from stream capture download and recording from sound card output. I currently use an excellent Windows recording program called Replay A/V. It sets all the parameters for each automated recording event, (audio source, schedule, output file type, etc.). I edit with NGWave from the .wav files produced by Replay and save as MP3's for burning to CD's. I listen to everything while driving overnight tractor-trailer. The recording must be automated because I'm either not home or sleeping.
I don't have time to be a full-time geek, although those of you in that category have my full-time respect. So I come over to check out Linux and wonder, "Why can't I do this over here? Or can I?" I see other people making similar requests. I'm nervous about and hope to avoid the overly obtrusive bloatware called Windows Vista; I can keep using Windows XP for a while. Are there good solutions here in Linux? If not, then this may be part of the problem as to why Linux may still not be ready for prime time. I'm no Windows zealot, but it's working for me right now. I would like for Linux to work for me, too. It's great for web, e-mail and office, and simply more secure. I've played with Mepis (year ago), Suse and Ubuntu (current). Getting ready to try out Zenwalk 4.0 right now.
Hope this wasn't too much soap box. Thanks for your time.
Thanks. (My search did not turn up this site when I looked for "audio," "record" or "audio recordings," combined with "linux," etc. It does not contain the words "recording" or "record;" it does have the word "audio.")
I'll check it out. One reason for my wanting Linux to work is I want to coninue using my present hardware. 64Studio has a 32-bit version. (If Hardware was no object, I'd check out Apple.)
