Do you guys know of a dist that has a webserver (say apache), ruby on rails, php, mysql etc. Installed by default? I'm looking for a lightweight dist, is there any?
Otherwise I'm thinking of going with ubuntu server and install everything ^^ from scratch. That can't be that hard can it? (I'm not a complete linux n00b) Do you know of any guides?
AND, while im at it. Do you know of any program/nice interface which I can use to set up ftp/mysql accounts, and 'creates' a port for just that user (in the webserver) and so on.. Am i unclear? English is not my native language.. Well, what I look for is somekind of free administrator program which saves me doing all the repetetive dirtywork if I want another user/site. AND, I ain't looking for a commercial solution, it's for me and some friends.
things like this aren't installed by "default", any distro will run these fine, most will probably have most if not all of the software you want available to install from disc, but not just by default. i'd very strongly urge against picking a distro based on one off criteria like that.
Ok! Thanks for yout answer. Then maybe cpanel/webmin (I shall look in to these) and ubuntu server is the line to walk..
Since the distro will be a webserver ONLY a distro having these things already installed (and tested) and easily updateable would be somewhat nice I still think thou. BUT, I can't see no real reason for someone to put out a distro like that, because it's probably just as easy to install by myself as you suggest. Thank you again!
