Any Graphical Package browsers for Gentoo?
 

I like emerge a lot, but a lot of times, searching for packages is a problem because the results returned are plenty.

I use emerge --search <package> | less to scroll the output but I think this is one area where a GUI package browser could be better because I could scroll through the results much more conveniently. As such, because of the fact that I cannot efficiently search (due to command line restrictions) I find it quite difficult to install packages whose name I am not quite sure of or just simply browsing for any packages which I might find useful.

Is there any graphical package search for portage repositories?

No, no you get me wrong. I am not looking for a web page. I am looking for the equivalent of synaptic.

I am not asking to install packages, but merely a desktop application or applet that will help me save custom searches, easy to browse, categorized list of applications and so on.

The sites you provided are quite good, but then again, in Synaptic I can browse *all* packages if I want to whereas in those sites I need to enter a search string.

Gentoo-portage.com is closer to my need, but still if there was a desktop client for such a service, it would be more convenient.

My objective is to have a desktop package browser which is more convenient in my opinion, allowing me to browse in a treeview/listview like structure, rather than scroll down web pages.

You can try using porthole but I'm not sure how stable it is.

giving porthole link and just as an alternative the kde frontend called kuroo.

I will use them not to install packages, but to search for them.

Don't worry. I am going to use the good old emerge to do the installation.

But searching and browsing is more comfortable using a GUI. Thanks for the links. :)

I just installed Kuroo and it looks quite decent. Thanks.

But I won't risk using it for install/uninstall upgrading yet.
