Hello,
I just installed Debian with Gnome.
But I currently have no sound. I tried mp3s with xmms and the default players, and also went to sites like ytmnd that have sound on them just to check if the mp3s were the problem. I had the same problem with Gentoo, and I cant seem to fix it. The volume is on top, and it works on Windows :/ Probably it didnt detect my sound card, or dunno (?)
First lets see if you have alsaconf installed, as root
apt-ccache search alsa | less
check if alsa-utils is installed if not
apt-get install alsa-utils
then
alsaconf
then see if you have gconf-editor installed (I think you will)
then
Open a terminal inside gnome and type;
gconf-editor
Browse to
system>gstreamer>0.8>default
and change osssink to alsasink for
audiosink and
audiosrc
Then if xmms still does not work go to
options
preferences
output plugin
and see if it is on alsa

Something weird... I dont have the "snd" module at all, which is really weird...
I found out by using "alsaconf" and I got "modinfo: could not find module snd"...
Today I updated my kernel. I alsaconfed without having the snd errors, and it went good, it made me chose between cards and shit, but still cant make the sound to play... First of all in alsamixer I cant even see the master sound etc... >:
I think that card uses the same driver as the live 24bit
I have used that card before.
Does lsmod show;
snd-cmipci
What I do is install alsaplayer and go to; http://www.radioparadise.com/
Play the stream with alsaplayer
open with /usr/bin/alsaplayer then;
open alsamixer and play with it.
There is no pcm or master that I can remember;
Here is some more on the driver; http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...&module=ca0106
Good Luck...
