Angry another crybaby

Hi guys

I started using libranet about a year ago, then I found mandrake and liked it very much I was amazed that mandrake recognize every hardware I had.

anyway, now I want to install web server on this mechine and do some practices. Thanks to mandrake rpm installer I installed mysql 5 and apache 2 also there is a php version on the mechine. I know this becuase I tested with that php info function
I found mambo and oscommerce packages and like to install them on my mechine. Somehow I could not get neither one of them working for me.
mambo checked the configuration and said that I need to install XML support and MYSQL. even though MYSQL is installed for sure, becuase I can browse, add databases to it through webmin.

I am going crazy over here becuase it is very fraustrating. Any one of you know a web site that has good instructions on php, mysql, apache installation for mandrake community 10.1.

Also do anyone of you know a good distrubution that installs pain-free web and database server?

please response real quick becuase this is my 5th night that I am loosing my sleep
thankyou very much for your future helps.

are you sure you used urpmi to install mysql? if so which reposirtories did you use... i ask this because even in Mandriva 2006 the free repositories are still on version 4 of mysql... u get mysql5 only in community and cooker repositories...

maybe u can look for their config files and edit the locations of xml libraries and mysql files... it should work...

To connect to MySQL under PHP, you need to do a bit more. Under your program manager, look for something similar to php-mysql.

php needs a module (i think thats what it is) called php-mysqli (yes, with the 'i') in order for it to send queries to mysql.. maybe thats your problem... you will find it in the mandriva urpmi repositories... no hassles just urpmi php-mysqli. however if mysql doesnt show at all inthe php info page see my previous post.

another alternative is the XAMPP server... which has apache, php, perl and mysql bundled together. you can dowload this for free from apachefriends.org... the versions are newer than the mdv repositories... however, other tools like webmin installed from mandriva repositories will need some decent amount of configuration before they will work with XAMPP. i think the mdv 2006 rpms are good unless you want mysql5... and are willing fiddle around with it

question: where did you install mysql5 from? it is not in the mdv 2006 free repositories... the answer to this will answer many questions.

lib.
