Has anyone managed to boot mdk8.2 with a custom kernel on a bootdisk?
I need to incorporate the ide-scsi things in the kernel or my burner will not be recognised let alone work!
I have a custom kernel ready and 2.4.19 downloaded. Do I need to make a new source tree or just a new directory eg: "2.4.19"
If you already have the custom kernel (and modules) compiled, why not make a brand new bootdisk for that kernel? Just go to Mandrake Control Center > boot (I guess, im running a finnish locale) > bootdisk. There you can choose the kernel image you want to have on the disk. I really see no reason having multiple kernels on one bootdisk. I have bootdisks for the stock kernel and the optimized one (for the just because I made one during install). Anyways, it's a good idea to have bootdisk at hand if something goes wrong, though you can also repair screwups with the install disk.
Rooman, you shouldn't need to make a custom kernel at all! If you install Mandrake with the normal kernel and normal booting (i.e. from the CD), then when you get to the bootloader section, simply add hdx=ide-scsi where hdx is the appropriate device.
I've downloaded a copy of 2.4.19 and will try another 2.4.18-6 recompile in order to get my burner recognised. I've already spent a lot of time and so have other (kind) linux users i trying to get it going.
In the meantime I have to use Windows to burn disks...
