A7V8X + distro thats good (kinda long)

Ok I have the ASUS A7V8X and currently have Mandrake 9.2 running, Mandrake install w/o a hitch! Which was GREAT! However I really don't like the distro, too much like windows XP for me!

I want to sink my teeth into another distro even if its a little too much over my head. (but being careful because I'm still a newbie)

So I've tryed:
Redhat 9 -> didn't like it again felt a lot like Windows XP:mad:
Slack 9.1 -> didn't reconize much, but like the distro, has a good *nix feel to it. I'm not afraid to try Slack again, but some advice would be nice.

So... dose any one use this MOBO, what distro do you use and was it hard as H*ll to get it to work.

*/ the rest of my setup (box 1 in my .sig) */
A7V8X (of course)
Chaintech 32MB Gforce MX220
Firewire, USB 2.0 from on board
And onboard sound.
(Misc dvd, cd zip ... stuff)

Thanks in advance

with a nforce2 chipset u can have some problems setting it up but once it is done its good. I have used slackware for about 1 year and have just moved to gentoo. I really like gentoo but its much harder than slackware. There are some instructions of how to configure your nforce chipset on their website

Was slack all that hard for you to install?

i came from MDK 9.1, found Slackware installation quite intuitive. No problem.
